Genus Heterosignum Gamô View in CoL , char. emend.
Type species. Heterosignum mutsuensis Gamô, 1976: 39–45 , gures 2, 3.
Diagnosis
Body elongate oval, with some dorsal and lateral setae, with a distinct waist between pereonites 4 and 5 resulting in clear distinction between pereonites 1–4 and 5–7. Head with a convex anterior margin. Some or all pereonites with single lateral spine-like processes. Coxal plates invisible in dorsal view on all pereonites. Eyestalks long, with a few ommatidia on their apex. Uropod biramous, lacking peduncle, inserted marginally on pleotelson. Pleon with two segments; pleotelson anteriorly narrow, cylindrical, posteriorly bulbous, with some teeth on lateral margin. Antenna 2 shorter than body length: article 3 elongate, longer than broad. Mandible without palp: molar process large, cylindrical, distally truncate, with irregular teeth on grinding surface.
