Type species. Paratropis scruposa Simon, 1889 View in CoL

Diagnosis. Paratropis are distinguished from other genera of the Paratropididae by the following characters: two pairs of spinnerets; males without tibial apophysis, palpal bulb with long, rather straight embolus; females with long spermathecae with multilobed vesicles, with or without longitudinal fold.

Distribution. Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil and Peru.
