Type species: Tydeus triophthalmus Oudemans, 1929 .
Remarks. André (1985) redefined the genus and synonymized Metatriophtydeus ( André 1980) with Triophtydeus . The genus is characterized by having three eyes (not always visible), opisthosoma with eight pairs of setae and four or three pairs of slit-like pores, epimeral formula in adults (coxal plus ventral setae): 3-1-3-3; leg setal counts (with solenidia in parentheses): Leg I: 10 (1ω)-5-3-5-1; Leg II: 6(1ω)-2-2-4-1; Leg III: 5-1-2-1-1; Leg IV: 5-2-2-1+2-0.
