Material examined
Holotype, adult female, from under bark of Eucalyptus sp., Kaban, Atherton Tableland, Queensland, Australia, coll. R.V. Southcott, 24 Aug. 1944. In SAM, J9454, ACC329.
Diagnosis
Dorsum with 15 pairs of palmate setae; femora I–IV with 5, 4, 2, 2; setae on genua clavate or lanceolate, ratio I: II: III: IV= 1.1: 1.1: 1.0: 1.0; tibiae I–IV each with 6 setae and an apical solenidion.
Description
ADULT FEMALE (n = 1)
Gnathosoma. Stylophore stumpy; movable digits short; peritremes with 4 loops. Palp 26; counts of setae and solenidia from trochanter to tarsus: 0, 2, 1, 1 + 1 claw, 1 + 1 eupathidium + 1 solenidion (). Subcapitular setae m 17, distance m–m, 22.
Idiosoma. Nearly circular in shape, 307 long, 272 wide. Prodorsum bearing 1 pair of eyes (12 in diameter), 1 pair of postocular bodies (14 in diameter) and 5 pairs of palmate setae, length x width: vi 19 x 18, ve 19 x 18, sci 21 x 18, sce 21 x 18, pdx 21 x 19; distances: vi– vi 31, vi–ve 31, vi–pdx 44, ve–sci 54, sci–sce 35. Hysterosoma bearing 10 pairs of setae, length x width: c1 24 x 16, c2 22 x 17, d1 23 x 12, d2 22 x 19, e1 22 x 19, e2 24 x 19, f1 22 x 18, f2 22 x 18, h1 18 x 16, h2 17 x 16; distances: c1–c1 47, c1–c2 78, c1–d1 50, d1–d1 63, d1–d2 56, d1– e 1 45, e1– e 1 54, e1– e 2 59, e1–f1 47, f1–f1 32, f1–f2 39, f1–h1 45, h1–h1 16, h1–h2 23. Venter with 3 pairs of setae, 1a (14), 3a (18) and 4a (16); coxal setae 1c about as long as 1b, 1b 21, 1 c 22. Aggenital setae slender, ag 20. Genitoanal valves with 1 pair of genital setae (g 16) and 3 pairs of pseudanal setae (ps3 21, ps2 21, ps1 15).
Legs. Length: leg I 332, leg II 299, leg III 316, leg IV 345. Setae on genua clavate or lanceolate, lengths: I 30, II 30, III 27, IV 28. Tibiae I–IV each with a solenidion: I (incomplete), II (40), III (incomplete) and IV (33). Tarsi I–II each with a solenidion: I 13, II 13. Counts of setae and solenidia on legs I–IV: coxae 2 + 1 elcI, 1, 2, 2; trochanters 0, 1, 1, 1; femora 5, 4, 2, 2; genua 1 + 1, 1 + 1, 1, 1; tibiae 6 + 1, 6 + 1, 6 + 1, 6 + 1; tarsi 8 + 1, 8 + 1, 7, 7.
ADULT MALE. Unknown.
Remarks
Bolland (1986) redescribed the adult female of C. australis based on a paratype specimen in his revision of the family Camerobiidae . According to his description the animal is slightly smaller than the holotype redescribed here, but his other measurements are very similar to those we measured on the holotype.
