[ Omphrale View in CoL ] Meigen, 1800: 29.

CURRENT STATUS: Unavailable name; work suppressed for the purposes of zoological nomenclature by action of I.C.Z.N. (1963: 339 [Opinion 678]); treated under Scenopinus Latreille, 1802 [teste Sabrosky (1999: 223)].

[ Omphrale View in CoL ] Bezzi, 1907a: 56.

CURRENT STATUS: Unavailable name; criteria to make the name available not fulfilled in this work. REMARKS: Bezzi (1907a) included this name only in a list of Meigen 1800 names without stating their availability.

Omphrale Meigen in Hendel, 1908: 58 View in CoL .

ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Musca senilis Fabricius, 1794 .

TYPE SPECIES: Musca senilis Fabricius, 1794 [= Musca fenestralis Linnaeus, 1758 ], by monotypy.

CURRENT STATUS: Junior synonym of Scenopinus Latreille, 1802 . New Synonymy.

FAMILY: SCENOPINIDAE .

REMARKS: Omphrale was originally proposed by Meigen (1800: 29) without included species and later made unavailable by the suppression of the entire work for the purposes of zoological nomenclature by action of the I.C.Z.N. (1963: 339 [Opinion 678]). Hendel (1908: 58) was the first after Meigen (1800) to give characters to differentiate the taxon (reproducing Meigen’s characters) and to treat Omphrale as valid, which makes the name available from that work with Meigen as author. Hendel (1908) included a single species: Musca senilis Fabricius, 1794 , which is the type species by monotypy. Musca senilis Fabricius, 1794 is currently treated in Scenopinus Latreille, 1802 [teste Sabrosky (1999: 223)], which makes Omphrale Meigen in Hendel, 1908 a junior synonym of Scenopinus Latreille, 1802 , n. syn. Melville (1960) considered Meigen’s (1800) Omphrale to be synonymous with Hypselura Meigen, 1803. Hendel (1908: 58) also listed Hypselura Meigen, 1803 as a synonym of Omphrale but listed Scenopinus Latreille, 1802 as a senior synonym to Hypselura Meigen, 1803. Meigen (1804) did not treat species of Scenopinus Latreille, 1802 in the main text, but in the “ Einleitung ” (p. xxii) noted that his Hypselura was the same as Latreille’s Scenopinus .
