55. Tendipes View in CoL
[ Tendipes View in CoL ] Meigen, 1800: 17.
CURRENT STATUS: Unavailable name; work suppressed for the purposes of zoological nomenclature by action of I.C.Z.N. (1963: 339 [Opinion 678]); treated under Chironomus Meigen, 1803 [teste Ashe & Cranston (1992: 256)].
[ Tendipes View in CoL ] Latreille, 1802: 425.
CURRENT STATUS: Unavailable name; name proposed (with Helea ) in synonymy with Tipula Linnaeus, 1758 without characters to distinguish each genus-group name.
[ Tendipes View in CoL ] Latreille, 1820: 360.
CURRENT STATUS: Unavailable name; name proposed (along with Helea ) in synonymy with Tipula Linnaeus, 1758 without characters to define each genus-group name.
[ Tendipes View in CoL ] Bezzi, 1907a: 56.
CURRENT STATUS: Unavailable name; criteria to make the name available not fulfilled in this work. REMARKS: Bezzi (1907a) included this name only in a list of Meigen 1800 names without stating their availability.
Tendipes Meigen in Hendel, 1908: 48 View in CoL .
ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Tipula plumosa Linnaeus, 1758 [as “ Tip. plumosa ... Fab.”], Tipula motitatrix Linnaeus, 1761 [as “ motitatrix ... Fab.”], Tipula vibratoria Linnaeus, 1758 [as “ vibratoria ... Fab.”].
TYPE SPECIES: Tipula plumosa Linnaeus, 1758 , by subsequent designation ( Coquillett 1910a: 612).
CURRENT STATUS: Junior synonym of Chironomus Meigen, 1803 . New Synonymy.
FAMILY: CHIRONOMIDAE .
REMARKS: Tendipes was originally proposed by Meigen (1800: 17) without included species and later made unavailable by the suppression of the entire work for the purposes of zoological nomenclature by action of the I.C.Z.N. (1963: 339 [Opinion 678]). Hendel (1908: 48) was the first after Meigen (1800) to give characters to differentiate the taxon (reproducing Meigen’s characters) and to treat Tendipes as a valid name, which makes the name available from that work with Meigen as author. Hendel (1908) did not include any species. Coquillett (1910a: 612) was the first to include a species: Tipula plumosa Linnaeus, 1758 , which is the type species by subsequent designation. Tipula plumosa Linnaeus, 1758 is currently treated in Chironomus Meigen, 1803 [teste Ashe & Cranston (1992: 256)], which makes Tendipes Meigen in Hendel, 1908 a junior synonym of Chironomus Meigen, 1803 , n. syn.
