17. Dionaea View in CoL
[ Dionaea View in CoL ] Meigen, 1800: 24.
CURRENT STATUS: Unavailable name; work suppressed for the purposes of zoological nomenclature by action of I.C.Z.N. (1963: 339 [Opinion 678]); treated under Rhamphomyia Meigen, 1822 [teste Yang et al. (2007: 149)]. FAMILY: EMPIDIDAE .
[ Dionaea View in CoL ] Bezzi, 1907a: 56.
CURRENT STATUS: Unavailable name; criteria to make the name available not fulfilled in this work. REMARKS: Bezzi (1907a) included this name only in a list of Meigen 1800 names without stating their availability.
Dionnaea Meigen in Hendel, 1908: 54 View in CoL .
ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Empis borealis Linnaeus, 1758 View in CoL ; Empis platyptera Panzer, 1794 View in CoL . TYPE SPECIES: Empis platyptera Panzer, 1794 View in CoL , by subsequent designation ( Coquillett 1910a: 534).
CURRENT STATUS: Junior synonym of Rhamphomyia Meigen, 1822 . New Synonymy.
FAMILY: EMPIDIDAE .
REMARKS: Dionaea was originally proposed by Meigen (1800: 24) without included species and later made unavailable by the suppression of the entire work for the purposes of zoological nomenclature by action of the I.C.Z.N. (1963: 339 [Opinion 678]). Hendel (1908: 54) was the first after Meigen (1800) to give characters to differentiate the taxon (reproducing Meigen’s characters) and to treat Dionaea as valid (spelling it as “ Dionnaea ”), which makes the name available from that work with Meigen as author. Hendel (1908) included two species: Empis borealis Linnaeus, 1758 ; Empis platyptera Panzer, 1794 . Coquillett (1910a: 534) designated Empis platyptera Panzer, 1794 , which is the type species by subsequent designation. Empis platyptera Panzer, 1794 s currently treated in Rhamphomyia Meigen, 1822 [teste Yang et al. (2007: 149)], which makes Dionnaea Meigen in Hendel, 1908 a junior synonym of Rhamphomyia Meigen, 1822 , n. syn. Hendel (1908: 54) misspelled Meigen’s genus-group name but, as this is the first availability of the name, this is the spelling that must be used. Coquillett (1910a: 534) followed Hendel’s (1908) spelling of the genus-group name when designating a type species for it.
