Genus Paradoxitettigia View in CoL gen. nov.
Genetic diagnosis. Body small, robust. Fastigium verticis conical, apex bluntly rounded and grooved dorsally. Apical segment of maxillary palpus longer than subapical one, slightly swollen apically. Pronotum short, lateral lobe longer than deep, posterior margin tapering, without humeral sinus. Tegmina short, slightly surpassing posterior margin of pronotum as usual; hind wings absent. Femora unarmed on ventral surface, genicular lobes with apices obtusely rounded. Fore tibial tympana open on both sides; hind tibiae with 1 pair of dorsal apical spurs and 2 pairs of ventral apical spurs. Male ninth abdominal tergite significantly swollen (prolonged posteriorly and extended outward); tenth abdominal tergite faintly narrow; cerci stout; tenth abdominal sternite fused with subgential plate, lateral margins of apical half folded dorsally and extended, without styli. Genitalia sclerotized. Female eighth abdominal tergite elongated ventrally; ovipositor stout, moderately bent dorsad, dorsal and ventral margins smooth, apex acute.
Discussion. This new genus can be distinguished from the known genera of the tribe Meconematini by: male ninth abdominal tergite conspicuously swollen; tenth abdominal sternite fused with subgenital plate, lateral margins of apical half folded dorsad and extended, without styli. Female eighth abdominal tergite elongated ventrally.
Type species. Paradoxitettigia longicaudica View in CoL sp. nov.
Etymology. The name of the new genus is derived from fantastic caudal morphological characters of male and female. Greek “ Paradox -” means fantastic, and Greek “ tettig -” means katydids.
