TYPE:— CHINA. Hainan: Hongmao Shan, 17 June 1929, W. T. Tsang & H. Fung 317 (i.e. Lingnan University Herbarium 17851) (holotype: NY 00066815 image!; isotype: A 00039753 image!) .

The name Horsfieldia hainanensis Merr. was validly published with a gathering “ Tsang and Fung 17851 ” in NY designated as the type ( Merrill, 1932). However, the collecting number on the lable of the holotype specimen is 317, while its herbarium number is Lingnan University Herbarium 17851. Therefore, the erroneous collecting number in the designation of type is to be corrected.
