Description. Measurements (n=11): HW: 0.77–0.82, HL: 0.46–0.55; AL (holotype): 1.39; OL: 0.25–0.27; PL: 0.62–0.65; PW: 1.22–1.27; ESL: 1.67–1.80; EW: 1.80–1.82; AW: 1.30–1.38; MTbL (holotype): 0.90; MTrL (holotype): 0.42 (MTrL 1–4: 0.27; MTrL 5: 0.15); AedL: 0.90; TL: 3.50–4.27 (holotype: 4.25).

Body oblong, moderately wide and somewhat flattened. Reddish-brown to brown; head, antennomeres 3–11 and abdomen brown; mouthparts, antennomeres 1 and 2, lateral and basal parts of pronotum and legs yellow to yellow-brown. Body glossy, without microsculpture except for posterio-lateral parts of head behind eyes and lateral parts of neck with isodiametric sculpture. Head with irregular, small and deep punctation, markedly denser and sometimes coarser on posterior part of infraorbital ridges and medio-posterior portion of head, sometimes with narrow to wide transverse impunctate areas between grooves; middle part of neck with irregular sparse punctation as that on head; pronotum with very dense and moderately deep and coarse irregular punctation, somewhat sparser on basal third; scutellum with several small punctures; punctation of elytra as that of A. conjunctum sp.n., somewhat coarser and deeper on basal and prescutellar portions; abdominal tergites with indistinct, sparse and smoothed punctation. Dorsal surface of body glabrous except for clypeus with several elongated setae, apical part of frons and abdominal tergites with very small irregular setation. Habitus as in Fig. 68 View FIGURES 65–69 .

Head 1.4–1.6 times as wide as long; middle part of head and posterio-lateral parts of infraorbital ridges slightly elevated; small area between grooves with indistinct to distinct transverse impression; occipital furrow between ocelli markedly wide and deep; grooves in front of ocelli deep and long, reaching apical third of longitudinal length of eyes; anterior portion of head between antennal insertion and anterior margin of eye with wide and moderately deep notch. Ocelli large and very convex, situated at level or slightly behind of postocular ridges; distance between ocelli slightly longer than distance between ocellus and posterior margin of eye. Measurements of antennomeres (holotype): 1: 0.17 × 0.07; 2: 0.12 × 0.05; 3: 0.15 × 0.05; 4–8: 0.11 × 0.06; 9–10: 0.11 × 0.07; 11: 0.18 × 0.07.

Pronotum about twice as wide as long, 1.5 times as wide as head, widest in middle, evenly or slightly more narrowed posteriad than anteriad; anterior angles widely rounded, indistinctly or slightly protruded anteriad; posterior angles obtuse; lateral edge with very smooth indistinct crenulation; disc of pronotum with very wide middle elevation with irregular indistinct wide longitudinal impression in anterior part and semicircular impression in medio-basal third; lateral portions moderately wide and markedly explanate, each with deep pit at about middle.

Elytra gradually widened apicad, slightly wider than long, reaching basal margin of abdominal tergite IV to VII, slightly less than three times as long as pronotum, with shoulders widely rounded; lateral portions narrow, slightly explanated, latero-apical margins with small flattened crenulation.

Male. Apical margin of abdominal tergite VIII and sternite VIII slightly sinuate. Aedeagus ( Fig. 80 View FIGURES 80–83 ) very wide, with basal part gradually narrowed toward obtusely, widely rounded apex of median lobe; parameres distinctly exceeding apex of median lobe, markedly curved mediad, with two pairs of apical and preapical short setae; internal sac very long and wide. Aedeagus laterally as in Fig. 81 View FIGURES 80–83 .

Female. Apical margin of abdominal tergite VIII more or less straight. Apical margin of abdominal sternite VIII rounded.

Comparative notes. Anthobium densepunctatum sp.n. may be distinguished from all remaining species of the nigrum group by the very dense and coarse punctation of the pronotum, the very wide aedeagus and details of its external and internal structures.

Distribution. The new species is known from two locations ( Fig. 76 View FIGURE 76 ) in Meili Xue Shan in Yunnan, China.

Bionomics. Specimens were collected at elevations 2580 to 2890 m a.s.l. by sifting of wet to soaking wet moss on large rocks and fallen trees in a creek, wet moss in a spray zone of a small waterfall, in a mixed broadleaved forest with broadleaved shrubs in undergrowth (locality: C156), by sifting of wet moss on rocks in a creek and sifting various debris along the creek and in a spray zone of a small waterfall (locality: C160), and by sifting of leaf litter, moss and dead wood in creek valley in mixed forest with bamboo (locality: C 2005-07) and creek valley below glacier in mixed forest (locality: C 2005-09 ( Fig. 84 View FIGURE 84 )). Specimens from the locality C 2005-07 ( Fig. 64 View FIGURE 64 ) were collected together with type specimens of A. hydraenoides sp.n. (see above).

Etymology. The specific epithet is a combination of Latin adjective densus, - a, - um (dense) and punctatus, - a, - um (punctated, spotted). It refers to very dense punctation of the pronotum.
