World distribution. Argentina and Chile.

Chilean distribution. From Coquimbo to Los Lagos region ( Fig. 65 View FIGURE 65 ).

Altitudinal range. From coastal to highland ecosystems (5– 3,000 m.a.s.l.).

Biology and notes. Palpada elegans is a generalist species associated with disturbed and native ecosystems. According to Smith-Ramírez et al. (2005) P. elegans visits flowers of A. luma , A. altenifolia , E. cordifolia , M. ovata var. ovata , M. planipes , Rhaphithamnus spinosus (Juss.) Moldenke and T. stipularis ( Smith-Ramírez et al., 2005) . Others records have been made it visiting Achillea millfolium L. (Ricardo Huenuanca, CSP record); Baccharis sp. (Matías Cortés, CSP record); Haplopappus foliosus (Hook. & Arn.) Hook. & Arn. (Tabatha Carrera, CSP records) and Mentha sp. (Tity Rodríguez, CSP record),

Conservation status. LC; EOO = 161,994 km 2; AOO = 104 km 2, 24 subpopulations and 25 localities.
