3.22. Epilobium parviflorum Schreber (1771: 146) View in CoL View at ENA ( Fig. 3A View FIGURE 3 .).
Type:— GERMANY. from vicinity of Leipzig (not located).
= Epilobium vestitum Benth. View in CoL in Wallich (1832: 216), nomen nudum. ≡ Epilobium parviflorum Schreb. var. vestitum Benth. ex C.B. Clarke (1879: 584) View in CoL .
Lectotype (designated by Chen et al. 1992):— NEPAL. Sheopuri Hills , near Rivulet Rocks, N of Kathmandu, 1821, N. Wallich 6327 ( K 000913970!, isolectotypes K 000913969!, BM 000957933!) .
Distribution: —N Pakistan, Jammu & Kashmir, U Ganga & Indus, C Nepal, S Hengduan, N Hengduan.
Note: —This species resembles Epilobium hirsutum in having 4-lobed stigma and villous pubescence. Smallflowered specimens of E. hirsutum may sometimes be misidentified as E. parviflorum . However, stigma of E. parviflorum is surrounded by the anthers at anthesis, and plants have rosettes rather than stolons.
Epilobium parviflorum var. vestitum was described by Clarke (1879), based on a gathering collected by N. Wallich (No. 6327). Chen et al. (1992) cited a sheet of N. Wallich 6327 in K as the “ holotype ” of E. parviflorum var. vestitum . However, there are at least two sheets (K000913970 and K000913969) deposite in K. One of them, K000913970 was labeled by Hoch (the second author of Chen et al. 1992) as the “ holotype ”, and K000913969 was labeled as the “isotype”. According to Art. 7.11, 9.1 and 9.10, the type status should be corrected.
