3.8. Epilobium cylindricum D. Don (1825: 222) .

≡ Epilobium roseum Schreber (1771: 147) var. cylindricum (D.Don) C.B. Clarke (1879: 585) . Lectotype (designated by Raven 1962a):— NEPAL. Sheopuri Hill, N of Kathmandu , 1821, N. Wallich 6328 ( BM000957922 !, isolectotypes E, G, K001123574!, K000913978!, W) .

= Epilobium beauverdianum Léveillé (1910a: 138) .

Type:— CHINA. Sichuan: Ta-Tsien Lou (Kangding), 1893, Soulie 449 (G).

= Epilobium christii Léveillé (1910b: 19) .

Type:—“Himalaya” (not located).

Distribution: —N Pakistan, Jammu & Kashmir, U Ganga & Indus, C Nepal, Sikkim & Darjiling, Bhutan, U Yarlung Zangbo, L Yarlung Zangbo, S Hengduan, N Hengduan.

Note: — Epilobium cylindricum is close to E. royleanum Haussknecht (1879: 55) , and can be distinguished by its taller stem and distinctive capitate stigma. E. cylindricum , E. tibetanum Haussknecht (1879: 53) , E. sinense Léveillé (1907: 590) , and E. platystigmatosum Robinson (1908: 210) form a complex group in the Pan-Himalaya region ( Chen et al. 1992).

Although Chen et al. (1992) noted that the “ holotype ” of Epilobium beauverdianum (Soulie 449) is deposited in G, we are not sure the status of this specimen. We only saw a photo of Soulie 449 in BM (BM000944621) which is from the specimen in G with a “Type” label written by P. H. Raven in 1960. According to Art. 9.1, we do not determine the type status of E. beauverdianum in this paper.
