3. Epidendrum cinnabarinum Salzmann View in CoL in Lindley (1831: 106).
Type:— BRAZIL. Bahia: sine loco accurato, s.d., fl., fr., Salzmann s.n. (lectotype designated here: K 000293528 photo!; isolectotypes: K 000293553 photo!, MPU 017820 About MPU photo!, MPU 017821 About MPU photo!, MPU 017822 About MPU photo!, MPU 017823 About MPU photo!, LE 00006535 photo!, FI 011800 photo!, P 00467527 photo!, G 00168900 photo!, TUB 009605 About TUB photo!, E 00681007 photo!) .
Notes:— Epidendrum cinnabarinum was collected by Salzmann, and the species name was atributed to him by Lindley (1831), who formally described the species. We found 12 specimens of Salzmann’s, four at MPU, two at K, one at E, one at FI, one at G, one at LE, one at P, and one at TUB. Lindley (1831) did not indicate which represents the holotype, and thus, we choose a single specimen to serve as the lectotype following the Code. As Lindley’s main herbarium is currently at K ( Stafleu & Cowan 1976), we choose K 000293528 instead of K 000293553 because it has more flowers. It is important to highlight that the herbarium sheet that includes K 000293528 also has two other specimens that are not types, K 000583725 and K 000583726.
