Etymology – Thespecificname “ iranica ” referstothetypelocalityofthisspecies, Iran.
Remarks – Allogalumna (Allogalumna) iranica sp. n. is unique among the knownspeciesof Allogalumna bythecombinationofthefollowingfeatures, namelytheundevelopedmedialportionofthedorsosejugalfurrow; four pairsofroundornearlyovalporoseareas; slightlydilatedlanceolatehead ofsensilliwithlongstalk; theroundedrostrum; thelong, thickenedinterla- mellarsetae, positionoflyrifissures im anteromediadof A 1, presenceofnoto- gastralmedianpore (infemalesandmales) andalarge, elongatedpostanal porosearea.
TheEuropeanspecies, A. (A.) integer describedbyBeRLese (1904) as Oribataalatainteger andredescribedbyMAHunKA (1992) resemblesthenewspeciesinthestructureofporoseareas, dilatedsensilli, longinterlamellarsetae andundevelopedmedialportionofthedorsosejugalfurrow. However, the formerspeciesisdistinguishedfromthepresentnewspeciesbytheshorter stalkandswollenheadofsensilli; longerandbarbulatelamellarsetae; inser- tionoflyrifissures im lateradofporoseareas A 1; insertionofnotogastralmedianporeposteromediadofporoseareas A 2; smalleradalarandnotogastral poroseareas, anddifferentpositionofnotogastralsetae c onpteromorphs.
TheMediterraneanspecies, A. (A.) parva describedbyBeRLese (1916) as Oribataparvus andredescribedbyMAHunKA (1992) issimilarto Allogalumna (A.) iranica sp. n. inthestructureofporoseareasandprodorsalsetae, butit isdifferentfromthenewspeciesintheshortersensilli, withclavatehead; absenceofdorsosejugalfurrow; insertionoflyrifissures im lateradofporose areas A 1, andsmallerbodysize (420 × 320).
TheTurkishspecies, A. (A.) turkeyensis describedbyGRObLeR etal. (2004) resemblesthenewspeciesinslightlydilatedsensilli. However, theformer speciesisdistinguishablefromthenewspeciesbytheshortersensilliwith roundedtip; thickerinterlamellarsetae; longerlamellarsetae; largerporose areas A 1, A 2 and A 3; insertionoflyrifissures im lateradofporoseareas A 1, and smallerbodysize (369–421 × 220–242).
