Tachycampa carlosjuarezi Palacios & Sendra , new species
( Figs. 11‒14 View FIGURES 11 ‒ 12 View FIGURES 13 ‒ 14 )
Description. Body length 4.6‒5.1 mm (four females), 4.4 and 5.3 mm (two males), 2.3 and 4.2 mm (two juveniles). Epicuticle with thick, dense microspines; body with short and smooth clothing setae.
Antennae with 25‒26 antennomeres. Sensillum of third antennomere subcylindrical, sharply pointed, in ventral position between macrosetae d and e. Central antennomeres 1.6 times longer than wide. Twelve gouge sensilla (21 Μm length) in a single distal whorl on each medial and distal antennomere. Cupuliform organ with 9‒10 complex sensilla. Frontal process slightly developed, with one smooth apical macroseta and several short, smooth, slightly tuberculated posterior setae. Three macrosetae at insertion line of antennae with relative lengths in 5.1-mm-long female holotype as a = 0.86, p = 1, i = 1, x = 0.72, with thin barbs along the distal half and some smooth x setae. Suboval labial palp with subcylindrical, sharply pointed latero-external sensillum, two guard setae, up to 7 setae on anterior border and up to 80 neuroglandular setae.
Notal distribution of macrosetae ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 11 ‒ 12 ): pronotum with 1+1 ma, 1+1 la, 1+1 lp; mesonotum with 1+1 ma, 1+1 la; metonotum without macrosetae. All macrosetae very thick, short and covered with small thorn-like barbs; marginal setae covered with small thorn-like barbs. Legs slightly elongated, metathoracic legs reaching the eighth abdominal segment. Femur III without dorsal macrosetae. Tibia III with one ventral macroseta barbed along the last half. Calcars barbed from base to tip. Dorsal and lateral tarsal setae smooth. Elbow-like claws ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 11 ‒ 12 ) with clear, slightly ridged lateral crests. Telotarsal process smooth and setiform.
Long macrosetae barbed along the distal two-thirds on abdominal tergites, with 0 or 1+1 post V-VI, 1+1 post VII, 3+3 post VIII and 5+5 post IX. Urosternite I with 6+6 thick macrosetae with long barbs; urosternites II to VII with 4+4 macrosetae, urosternite VIII with 1+1 macrosetae. Apical setae of styli with basal tooth divided in two branches and 2‒4 thin barbs, subapical setae with 1 or 3 barbs, ventral medial setae with bifurcate tips.
Male urosternite I ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 13 ‒ 14 ) without marginal glandular field; subcylindrical appendages with two fields of 5‒8 a1 -gladular setae and 7‒9 a2 -glandular setae. Female urosternite I ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 13 ‒ 14 ) subcylindrical appendages similar to those of male, with two fields of 6‒7 a1 -glandular setae and 5‒8 a2 - glandular setae.
Type material. Female holotype from “Cueva San Juan Tepozlán”, lava tube of the Suchiooc Volcano, 99°03’ N, 19° 00’W, Morelos, México, 10 XII 1978, I. Ramírez leg.; two male, three female and two juvenile paratypes, 13 I 2014, I. Ramírez leg. from the same cave; mounted in Hoyer’solution, deposited in UNAM.
Etymology. This species is dedicated to the memory of the late Prof. José Carlos Juárez López, former principal and founder of the vertebrate laboratory, Faculty of Sciences, UNAM.
Remarks. Tachycampa calosjuarezi n. sp. differs the other three Mexican Tachycampa species in having densely barbed thoracic macrosetae and marginal setae and in the presence of 2+2 (ma, la) medial-anterior and lateral-anterior mesonotal macrosetae.
