sp. nov.

Oncinocampa bolivarurrutiai Sendra & García , new species

( Figs. 1‒5 View FIGURES 1 ‒ 3 View FIGURES 4, 5 )

Description. Body length 4.1 and 4.6 mm (two males), 3.8 to 5.7 mm (three females, holotype included). Complete length of cerci unknown, up to 7.2 mm in holotype with body length of 5.7 mm, and 9.5 mm in paratype female of 3.8 mm. Epicuticle smooth; body with long, thin, smooth or barbed clothing setae.

Antennae with 31 antennomeres in one longer incomplete antenna. Sensillum of third antennomere ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 ‒ 3 ) large, sinuous, located in ventral position between macrosetae d and e. Central antennomeres 1.5 times longer than wide. Apical antennomere (found on an incomplete antennal fragment) 3 times longer than wide, its cupuliform organ containing 5‒6 thick, long sensilla with 2 or 3 collarettes. Abundant and short gouge sensilla ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 ‒ 3 ) with up to 20 to 25 sensilla in one single distal whorl, starting from 4th antennomere with only five. Frontal process slightly developed, with one smooth apical macroseta and two smooth posterior macrosetae. Three macrosetae along the line of insertion of antennae and x setae with the following relative lengths in holotype: a = 1, p = 0.80, i = 0.92, x = 0.64. Labial palp suboval, with sinuous latero-external sensillum similar to sensillum of maxillary palp and third antennomere, two guard setae, up to six setae on anterior border and up to 90 neuroglandular setae.

Thoracic nota slightly elongated. Distribution of macrosetae ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 4, 5 ): pronotum with 1+1 ma, 1+1 la, 1+1 lp; mesonotum without macrosetae, 0+1 sla (in holotype) or 0+2 ma and sla (paratype); metanotum without macrosetae. All macrosetae long with thin barbs. Submacrosetae of mesonotum each with small alveolus. Marginal setae long, well developed and barbed along the last two-thirds. Legs elongated, metathoracic legs reaching abdominal segment IX. Femur III without dorsal macrosetae. Tibia III without ventral macrosetae. Calcars strongly barbed from base to tip. Dorsal and lateral tarsal setae smooth. Claws elbow-like, very unequal ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 ‒ 3 ), length of anterior claw 0.65 to 0.80× that of posterior claw (this proportion independent of body size), both with small lateral crests. Telotarsal process smooth and setiform.

Distribution of abdominal macrosetae on tergites: 2+2, 3+2 or 3+3 post macrosetae VIII, 5+5 post macrosetae IX, all long and well barbed. Urosternite I with 6+6 thick macrosetae with long barbs; urosternites II to VII with 4+4 macrosetae, urosternite VIII with 1+1 macrosetae. Apical setae of styli with a basal tooth divided in two branches, subapical setae with 1 or 2 thin barbs and ventral medial setae with bifurcate tips. Broken cerci with a base followed by up to 28 short primary articles, each bearing 4 to 8 whorls of macrosetae barbed on proximal articles to smooth in distal articles, mixed with whorls of smooth setae.

Male urosternite I without field of glandular setae on posterior margin ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 4, 5 ). Their subcylindrical appendages of urosternite I with field of 8 to 11 a1 -glandular setae on apex and lateral-internal field of 13 to 19 thinner a2 -glandular setae. Female subcylindrical appendages of urosternite I similar to those male with about 20 a1 -glandular setae.

Type material and locality. Holotype female, two male and three female paratypes from “Cueva Galicia”, 18° 47.862’ N, 96° 59.540’ W Zongolica’s massif limestone at Ixtaczoquitlán, Veracruz, México. 23 VIII 2009, A. García leg., mounted in Hoyer’s solution, deposited in UNAM.

Etymology. This new species is dedicated to the internationally prestigious Spanish entomologist Ignacio Bolívar y Urrutia (born Madrid 1850, died Ciudad de México 1944), a prolific specialist in Orthoptera who described several hundred species. He was very active in educational activities and during his life in Mexico founded the journal Ciencia.

Remarks. Oncinocampa bolivarurrutiai n. sp. is placed in Oncinocampa on the basis of its elbowed claws with very small lateral crests. It shares with the closest Oncinocampa species, O. genuitei Bareth, 1989 , the absence of macrosetae on the metanotum. An exclusive feature of O. bolivarurrutiai , unknown in other species of the genus, is the absence of macrosetae on urotergites I‒VII. The reduction in the number of macrosetae on urotergites VIII and IX also is an important character for this new species.
