Diagnosis. Head capsule without tubercles; SI seta bifid; premandible with single apical tooth, no apparent brush; antennal ratio 1.6–1.8; mandible with long apical tooth, about as long as combined length of three inner teeth; mentum with single dome-shaped median tooth with two tiny central teeth, about 4x the width of 1 st lateral, no accessory too, 5 lateral teeth; VM plates elongate, tapering to a truncated base, beard with 12–13 setae.
Notes. The larva keys Rheocricotopus sp. VA in Epler (2001). The mentum with the large median tooth, can be confused with a worn median tooth of R. unidentatus but it is more triangular with straight sloping sides.
Sampling sites. Killarney and Algonquin Provincial Parks.
Nearctic distribution. Canada: Ontario. USA: Virginia.
