Diagnosis. Labral lamella and premandible as in M. polita ; antennal pedestal with large irregular spur, stalk of LO twice as long as 2 nd segment, AR 1.8; mandible with large lobe on outer margin; mentum with first lateral tooth slightly shorter than 2 nd lateral; VM plates touching medially; anal tubules angled downward; posterior parapod with about 15 claws.

Notes. This larva keys out to M. sp. E in Epler (2001), distinguished by the lobe on the outer margin of mandible, rather large irregular spur on the pedestal and the lower first lateral tooth of the mentum.

Ecology and habitat. Larvae occurred in all study streams in large numbers.

Sampling sites. We found the larvae inhabiting streams in all the provincial parks and districts located in our study area.

Nearctic distribution. Canada: Ontario. USA: South Carolina.
