Buethobius translucens Williams & Hefner, 1928 View in CoL
Buethobius translucens Williams & Hefner 1928: 139 View in CoL ; Mercurio 2010: 45 (complete references)
The brief description of this species does not suggest a Buethobius View in CoL , but Lamyctes View in CoL , as the length is given as only 4– 5 mm and the number of antennomeres as 25 (all other known Buethobius View in CoL species have 35 or more). Other characters are not mentioned. The presence or absence of an ocellus is not mentioned, but placing the species in Buethobius View in CoL suggests that Williams and Hefner did not observe one. Mercurio (2010) lists a female specimen in the collections of Ohio State University, but in response to an inquiry, this specimen could not be located. In the absence of type material, the eventual disposition of this species may have to be arbitrary, but it is probably a synonym of L. emarginatus (an early epimorphic developmental stage) or possibly L. coeculus .
