Cychramus adustus has been recorded in Canada from Ontario and Québec (McNamara 1991), and in the United States from Maine south to Georgia and west to Texas, Missouri, and Michigan ( Parsons 1943; Chandler 2001). The species is found on fungi and is also attracted to lights ( Downie and Arnett 1996). Price and Young (2006) found it on black-eyed susan ( Rudebeckia hirta L., Asteraceae ).
