Diagnosis
Very similar to flavimedia , the major difference being the strongly enlarged male scape and the strong longitudinal grooves on the outer surface of male scape in sulciscapus (figure 93) ( flavimedia with male scape similar to female scape, i.e. narrow and without grooves (figure 92)). The females of sulciscapus and flavimedia is more difficult to separate, a tentative difference is the colour of the pedicel, pale in flavimedia and dark in sulciscapus . However, there tends to be some variation in this character in flavimedia , from white to dark brown (see above), hence it has to be used with caution.
