scutata View in CoL

Ampullaria scutata Mousson, 1848: 268 View in CoL [1849: 60, pl. 8, fig. 2]. Type material — syntypes: ZMZ 525001 (2 spms.). Type locality —[no locality given; “Pardana”; “Java” ( Mousson 1849: 60, in publication title)]. Distribution — Indonesia, Peninsular Malaysia, Burma / Myanmar, Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, doubtfully China, introduced to Guam, Hawaii, Palau ( Brandt 1974: 52; Cowie 1995: 64; Low et al. 2013: 56; Tan et al. 2013: 135), eradicated from Palau ( Cowie 2002: 169).

Remarks. Variety of conica Wood , teste G.B. Sowerby III (1910: 58) and Alderson (1925: 78). Synonym of compacta Reeve , teste Gaudion (1880: 27) and of conica Wood , teste Nevill (1877: 7), Preston (1915: 100) and many others ( Low et al. 2013: 56). Synonym of gracilis Lea , teste Keawjam (1986: 71, 1990: 11). The name scutata Mousson has priority over all these names. Treated as the valid name for conica Wood , non Lamarck, nec Swainson, by Brandt (1974: 52) and Low et al. (2013: 56), both in Pila . The names sulcata of Adams & Adams (1854: 346) and of Paetel (1888: 482) are here considered incorrect subsequent spellings of scutata Mousson (see also G.B. Sowerby III 1910: 58) and therefore unavailable (Code, Art. 33.3).
