Adelencyrtus Ashmead View in CoL View at ENA

Adelencyrtus Ashmead, 1900: 401 View in CoL . Type species: Encyrtus chionaspidis Howard View in CoL , by original designation. Epiencyrtoides Girault, 1915: 108 . Type species: Epiencyrtoides quadridentatus Girault , by original designation. Synonymy with Adelencyrtus View in CoL by Mercet, 1921: 698.

Rotrencyrtus Risbec, 1959: 39 . Type species: Rotrencyrtus depressus Risbec , by monotypy. Synonymy with Adelencyrtus View in CoL by Annecke & Insley, 1971: 2.

Diagnosis. Female. Length 0.7−1.8 mm (including ovipositor sheath); head triangular in lateral view, often strongly inflexed at top of antennal scrobes ( Zhang & Huang 2004, fig. 128); antennae 11-segmented; mandible with four teeth, or with two teeth and an upper truncation (except for A. simmondsi from Australia, which has a small ventral tooth and an upper truncation); facial impression without a transverse line of silvery white setae at top of antennal scrobes; scutellum somewhat flattened or slightly convex, usually with sculpture deeper than that of mesoscutum ( Zhang & Huang 2004, fig. 37); fore wing varying from hyaline to distinctly infuscate; marginal vein long, at least 3 × as long as broad; postmarginal vein shorter than stigmal vein; ovipositor sheath slightly to distinctly exserted. Male. Similar to female but for antennae and genitalia; flagellum of antenna often with one or two anelliform segments and a solid, banana-like clava ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 3 − 9. 3 − 8 ); fore wing hyaline.

Noyes (2009), in the most up-to-date database of Chalcidoidea, lists 29 species of Adelencyrtus worldwide, of which 7 have been recorded from China ( Xu et al. 1995; Xu & Shi, 1999; Xu & He 2003; Zhang & Huang 2004; Xu & Huang 2004). However, the status of Adelencyrtus perniciosus Xu and He (Xu & He 2003) needs to be confirmed because the description and drawings (in particular, linea calva of fore wing posteriorly closed) suggest that this species probably does not belong to Adelencyrtus but to another genus, perhaps Coccidencyrtus Ashmead , thus it is not included here. Compere & Annecke (1961) and Hayat et al. (1975) gave keys to the world species. Trjapitzin (1989) gave a key to the Palaearctic species. The key to the species of Chinese Adelencyrtus is based on those by Compere & Annecke (1961), Hayat et al. (1975) and Hayat (2006).
