( Figs. 35–37 View FIGURES 26–42 )
Megacanthopus mocsaryi Ducke, 1909: 627 .
Mischocyttarus mocsaryi: Ducke, 1918: 351 View in CoL ; Richards, 1945: 341; Zikán, 1949: 198; Richards, 1978: 300.
HOLOTYPE: ♂ Brazil, Pará , Óbidos,1909 (Ducke) ( MNHN); examined.
FEMALE: unknown.
MALE. Length of fore wing 10 mm; head very transverse as seen from above, in frontal view very low and wide ( Fig. 36 View FIGURES 26–42 ), clypeus rather flat, wide, H/WClp 0.88, median angle obtuse, apex widely rounded; malar space very narrow, not completely obsolete; mandible with posterior margin curved and sinuous nearby first tooth, this tooth very long with the apex flat and blunt, fourth tooth reduced; tentorial pit much closer to the eye than to antennal socket; interantennal area very prominent; antennal scape exceedingly short and wide, L/Wesc 2.16, tyloids quite shining and conspicuous, very narrow on antennomeres 3–5, antennomere 3 about 3 times longer than wide, apex of antenna moderately elongated ( Fig. 37 View FIGURES 26–42 ), with evident potential to become spirally rolled, antennomeres 11–13 distinctly flattened below, 12 about 1.66 longer than wide, 13 about 3.18 times longer than wide, narrow and acuminate, 1.4 times longer than 12; occeli widely separated, POL about 2 times larger than one diameter, POL/OOL more than 2/3; occiput with margin distinct; gena very narrow; hypostomal lamella narrow; mesosoma considerably robust; pronotum with lateral fovea, anterior margin medially with the lamella narrow and slightly reflexed, region just behind not raised into secondary margin; humeral angle very prominent ( Fig. 35 View FIGURES 26–42 ), pronotal carina raised and sharp laterally, slightly reflexed at sides forming small lateral lobe, completely reduced at the center, profile as seen from above strongly concave forwards, carina total width about equal to that of mesoscutum; anterior face of fore coxa strongly flattened; mesoscutum as long as wide; fore wing moderately elongated, LDis/HMpl 2.24, pterostigma nearly 4 times longer than wide; inner claw of hind tarsus with the apex narrowly rounded; propodeum inflated but somewhat shortened behind, median furrow deep, anterior area of propodeum adjacent to metanotum protuberant, propodeal valve wide, triangular; first segment of metasoma very long, LSI/HMpl 1.2, with a short linear (parallel sided) sector just after spiracles, apex proportionally very wide, 2.36 times wider than the basal petiole, spiracles prominent, sternum proximally flattened, its limit with the tergum marked by a prominent shining edge.
Sculpture: clypeus with fine punctation, interstices shining; upper part of interantennal area and frons with unique pattern of large well spaced punctures, no small ones, interstitial spaces reticulate; mesopleuron with small and large well marked punctures, less dense ventrally.
Color: brown; interantennal area, frons and vertex, dorsum of mesosoma (specially the mesoscutum), ventral parts of mesopleuron, metasoma, very dark brown to black; antennal flagellum below, light brown to yellowish brown at the apex; articular processes on meso and metapleuron, propodeal valves, spot on femora, spot on inner face of fore tibia, light yellowish brown; large spot on anterior margin of mandible, lower part of inner orbit, narrow area around antennal socket, small dorsal streak on gena, apex of femora, large ventral spot on mid coxa, one lateral stripe on hind coxa, inner distal margin of trochanters, yellow; dorsum of the fifth segment of fore tarsus, mid and hind tibial spurs, pale yellow; wings with the proximal membrane strongly darkened, specially near the costal margin, apical region rather pale, veins dark brown.
NEST: unknown.
Remarks
The species shares remarkable similarities with M. fitzgeraldi , the two being possibly northern representatives of a group also including M. villarricanus and M. funerulus .
Distribution SOUTH AMERICA: Brazil (PA).
