Group of Mischocyttarus metathoracicus (de Saussure) View in CoL
Species of this group have the clypeus a little less wide than others in the subgenus, and the limit between the propodeum and lower metapleuron is marked by a sulcus (shallower and less marked than in the group of M. injucundus ). The propodeum is greatly inflated anteriorly and the median furrow relatively short and shallow. The metanotum is yellow as well as most of the propodeal dorsum in most cases. Of the names considered valid by Richards (1978), only M. metathoracicus (de Saussure) and M. flavoscutellatus Zikán are here maintained, and three new species are added to the group. Mischocyttarus occiduus sp. n. shows a different color pattern on the propodeum, with smaller and not completely fused yellow spots. Its patterns of sculpture of the cuticle also seem to be stronger than in the other species. If M. occiduus sp. n. is correctly assigned to this group then it is the only one known to occur west of the Andes.
