Larnaca (Larnaca) rubiabdomina Su, Duan & Shi sp. nov., Chinese name üDz原ssdz

( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 ; 3C, D, E, F View FIGURE 3 ; 5A, B View FIGURE 5 )

Description. Male. Body medium-sized for the family. Head. Face oval, nearly smooth. Eyes ovoid, median ocellus large and distinct, lateral ocelli nephroid ( Fig. 2A View FIGURE 2 ). Fastigium verticis about 2 times as broad as antennal scape. Pronotum subquadrate, anterior margin faintly protruding forwards, posterior margin nearly straight ( Fig. 2C View FIGURE 2 ).

Wings. Tegmen reaching posterior margin of fifth abdominal tergite, hind wing almost as long as tegmen. Tegmen with 7–9 subparallel veins, there are different fusion, division and connection arrangements between R, M and Cu in different specimens; anal veins also fusing each other sometimes ( Fig. 3C–F View FIGURE 3 ).

Legs. Fore coxa with 1 spine. Fore and middle femora unarmed on ventral surfaces; fore and middle tibiae with 4 pairs of long spines and 1 pair of short apical spurs on ventral surfaces respectively. Hind femur with 7–10 outer spines and 6–7 inner spines on ventral surface separately; hind tibia with 5–6 outer and inner spines on dorsal surface separately. Hind tibia with 1 pair of apical spurs on dorsal surface, also with 1 pair of pre-apical and 2 pairs of apical spurs on ventral surface. Abdomen. Lateral areas of second and third abdominal tergites with 1–2 rows of stridulatory pegs separately. Eighth abdominal tergite significantly prolonged backwards, about 2 times as long as seventh abdominal tergite ( Fig. 2D View FIGURE 2 ). Ninth abdominal tergite lightly prolonged, curved downwards and furrowed along midline; lateral area of apical half swollen, ventro-internal angle prolonged into a short and sclerotized spiniform process, apical area lightly curved inside, tip subacute ( Fig. 2D, F View FIGURE 2 ). Subgenital plate with apical half narrowing, posterior margin feebly concave ( Fig. 2E View FIGURE 2 ).

Coloration. Head black. Eyes dark brown. Inner margin of antennal socket black. Median ocellus yellow and lateral ocelli dark red. Margins of pronotum fitfully black ( Fig. 2A–C View FIGURE 2 ). Wings nearly transparent with veins dark brown ( Fig. 3C–F View FIGURE 3 ). Spines of fore and middle tibiae black with apices light. Hind femur and tibia with spines and spurs black. First to seventh abdominal tergites with basal halves dark brown and apical halves yellow. Eighth and ninth abdominal tergites red ( Fig. 2H View FIGURE 2 ).

Female. Similar to male except for the following characteristics: seventh abdominal sternite broad, apical half narrowing, posterior margin with a semicircular and small concavity. Subgenital plate wider than long, anterior margin arc-shaped, posterior margin faintly concave ( Fig. 2G View FIGURE 2 ). Ovipositor relatively short, moderately curved dorsally, dorsal and ventral margins smooth, apex subacute ( Fig. 2H View FIGURE 2 ).

Specimens examined. Holotype: ♂, Damu Lhoba, Mêdog, Xizang, China. 13 July, 2023, collected by Yanhao Duan. Paratypes: 9♂ 3♀, same data as holotype .

Measurements (mm). Body length: ♂ 20.0–26.7, ♀ 23.1–25.6; pronotum length: ♂ 5.5–5.7, ♀ 5.9–7.1; tegmen length: ♂ 9.8–11.1, ♀ 10.0–14.3; hind femur length: ♂ 13.2–15.2, ♀ 11.9–13.0; ovipositor length: ♀ 12.1–14.5.

Discussion. This new species is similar to Larnaca (Larnaca) walle Yin & Meng, 2021 , but it differs from the latter in: head black, pronotum red with margins narrowly black; tegmen just reaching posterior margin of fifth abdominal tergite; male ninth abdominal tergite furrowed along the midline and lateral area of apical half strongly swollen, posterior processes of male ninth abdominal tergite short, feebly curved inside at bases and tips subacute.

Etymology. The name of this new species is derived from the male eighth and ninth abdominal tergites red, Latin “ rub- ” (red) and “ abdomin- ” (abdomen).

Distribution. Xizang ( China).
