Megaceras Hope, 1837 View in CoL
[18 species and 2 additional subspecies]. Hope (1837) originally fixed Scarabaeus chorinaeus Fabricius, 1775 as the type species of Megaceras but that species is currently considered a junior synonym of Scarabaeus pan Fabricius, 1775 in the genus Enema Hope, 1837 . Scarabaeus chorinaeus Olivier, 1789 , considered as a member of Megaceras and sometimes its type species, is not an available name ( Bouchard et al. 2024). An application to the Commission is necessary to fix one of the approximately 20 nominal species currently included in Megaceras Hope (e.g., Scarabaeus jason Fabricius, 1775 ) as the type species of Megaceras Hope, 1837 . Note: Burmeister (1847) incorrectly spelt Megaceras as “ Megacerus ”.
