Ptyssalges Atyeo & Gaud, 1979

Type-species: Paralges major Trouessart, 1887

Mites of this genus also inhabit quills of hummingbirds (Atyeo & Gaud 1979), and can be characterized by having solenidia ω 1 on tarsi I and II inserted subapically. This genus is so far monotypic, although Atyeo & Gaud (1979) had mentioned that it contains numerous undescribed species. The species herein reported are clearly different from Ptyssalgers major (Trouessart) , but is not described because no males and only a single female were found. (Collection data as in the new species described herein).
