Stem

Stem is mostly slender but becomes woody at the base in shrubby species. Branches usually vary from prostrate, ascending to erect. In I. barberi and I. deccanensis , branches are angular. Trailing prostrate to ascending branches are present in I. pedicellata and I. prostrata , while in others erect or erect ascending type of branching is observed. In I. prostrata , roots are much branched and covered with nodules.
