Differs from var. trita in having more than 4.5 cm long, distinctly pedunculate racemes, narrow and spreading pods and from var. purandharensis Sanjappa View in CoL in having membranous leaves, pods that are broad (2 mm), compact and deflexed.
Phenology:— Fls. August–November; Frts. October–January
Distribution:— INDIA: Goa, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Punjab; PAKISTAN, ETHIOPIA, ERITREA, KENYA, MOZAMBIQUE, TANGANYIKA, SOMALI REPUBLIC, SUDAN, UGANDA.
Habitat:— Open areas in deciduous forests, road sides, hill slopes from 30 to 100 m.
Specimen examined:— Gujarat: Dangs forest , 23 October 1919, R. H. Dastur 141 ; Waghai to Pimpri , 23 September 1955, D. P. Panthaki 2350 (Holotype of I. oreophila Santapau & Panthaki, BLAT ) ; Santapau 19985, 20081 ( BLAT, DD) .

Pollen:— 3-zonocolporate, suboblate, 25x29 (24–26x28–30) μm, granulate (Vishnu-Mittre & Sharma, Pollen et Spores 4: 5–45. 1962 sub I. oreophila Santapau & Panthaki ).
