Hosts: Passer domesticus (L.) [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]; P. hispaniolensis (Temminck) * [1]; P. montanus (L.)* [1].
Distribution in Bulgaria: Burgas, Maslen Nos Cape, Petrich [1]; Tsarevo, Gramatikovo, Izgrev (Burgas Region), Malko Tarnovo [2]; Petrich, Gotse Delchev [3]; Asenovgrad, Kirilovo (Stara Zagora Region), Stara Zagora, Dositeevo (Haskovo Region), Elhovo, Kirilovo (Yambol Region) Harmanli [4]; Godech, Belogradchik, Berkovitsa, Botevgrad, Vratsa, Karlovo, Elena, Gabrovo, Kazanlak, Mirkovo (Sofia Region) [5].
Remarks: According the world checklist of Price et al. (2003), Philopterus fringillae (Scopoli, 1772) is known only as parasite of Passer domesticus (L.). The species identification of the lice reported by Balát (1958) from Passer hispaniolensis (Temminck) and Passer montanus (L.) needs additional studies.
