Philopterus pallescens (Denny, 1842) View in CoL
Reports: [1] Balát (1958); [2] Touleshkov (1962); [3] Touleshkov (1974).
Hosts: Parus ater L.* [1]; P. lugubris Temminck * [3]; P. major L. [2, 3]; P. palustris L. [2].
Distribution in Bulgaria: Rila monastery, Pirin Mountain – Banderitza [1]; Gotse Delchev, Petrich [2]; Vratsa, Buchin Prohod (Sofia Region), Godech [3].
Remarks: Parus ater L. is known as host of Philopterus peripariphilus (Mey, 1988) . The identification the lice reported by Balát (1958) as Philopterus pallescens (Denny, 1842) from this host requires additional studies. Philopterus pallescens (Denny, 1842) is the first record of a louse species from Parus lugubris Temminck.
