Diagnosis. The forewing length is 14–15.5 mm in males and 15–16 mm in females. The species has two forms strongly differing by the shape of the longitudinal streaks in the postmedial area. The dark form ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 8–15 ) is characterized by the entire and thicker streaks, the somewhat darker forewing ground colour, and, additionally, by the wider subapical dark streaks of the hindwing. The pale form ( Fig. 11–13 View FIGURES 8–15 ) is characterized by the interrupted postmedial longitudinal streaks and varies in the shape of the postmedial line which may be entire or nearly disappearing in its fore half. The male genital capsule of S. karenkonis is reminiscent of that of S. hainanensis but differs by the distally narrower uncus, the apically pointed vinculum (it is apically rounded in S. hainanensis ), and the valva narrower basally and rounded apically (whereas it is conspicuously wider basally and nearly rectangular apically in S. hainanensis ). Additionally, the ampulla of S. karenkonis is somewhat more elongate than in S. hainanensis . The female genitalia of S. karenkonis differ from those of S. hainanensis by the somewhat wider ductus bursae and the conspicuously wider appendix bursae having a wider distal section.

Distribution. Endemic to Taiwan Island ( Matsumura 1930; Wu & Kishida 2018).
