Diagnosis. The forewing length is 13–14 mm in males and 15.5–16.5 mm in females. Stigmatophora hainanensis is reminiscent of S. palmata but differs by the somewhat paler postmedial and subterminal areas of the forewing with the narrower longitudinal black streaks. The male genital capsules of the two species are very similar but the valva of S. hainanensis is somewhat narrower subbasally, more constricted medially and having a narrow rectangular tip (whereas that of S. palmata is broad and more or less rounded). Additionally, the distal saccular process of S. hainanensis is slightly more elongate, narrower and apically pointed than in S. palmata . The vesica of S. hainanensis is markedly broader than that of S. palmata and its subbasal cluster consists of fewer cornuti, the number of which varies from 1 to 4. In the female genitalia, the ductus bursae of S. hainanensis is more elongate and the corpus bursae is broader than those structures of S. palmata .
Distribution. The species is known from Southeast and South China (Hainan, Jiangxi, Guangxi and Guangdong) ( Fang 1991; Dubatolov et al. 2012). The records from Thailand and Laos ( Černý & Pinratana 2009; Kishida 2020) belong to S. palmata .
