Typological note. The type material of E. uambae View in CoL deposited at MNRJ was destroyed in the fire of September 2018. The neotype is herein designated from specimens collected near to type locality, Park of “Xingu” ( Fig. 35 View FIGURE 35 ) (ICZN 2000, chapter 16, article 75.3.4 and 75.3.6., and article 76). The specimens fit all morphological characteristics presented in the original description ( Arlé, 1959).

Diagnosis. Redescription. Total length (head + trunk) of specimens 1.78–2.32 mm (n=4), neotype 2.06 mm. Specimens yellowish with violet to blackish pigments on distal half or entire Ant IV, distal half of Ant III, proximal and distal regions of Ant II, Ant I basally pigmented or not; Th II–Abd III with a transverse band heavily or weakly pigmented; Abd IV central region with an irregular transverse band, rarely absent; Abd IV and femur III (sometimes I–II) always black distally; head, Th II, coxa I–III (sometimes strongly) and femur I–III depigmented or weakly pigmented; collophore, tibiotarsus I–III, manubrium and dens yellowish or whitish; eyepatches black ( Fig. 29 View FIGURE 29 ).

Head. Antenna subequal or longer than the trunk length ( Figs 29G–L View FIGURE 29 ), ratio antennae: trunk = 1.25–0.91: 1 (n=4), neotype 1.19: 1; antennal ratio as I: II: III: IV = 1: 1.27–1.48: 1.14–1.30: 1.72–2.53 (n=4), neotype 1: 1.35: missing: 2.43. Ant IV weakly annulated on its distal 2/3 and devoid of apical bulb, with 4 apical finger-shaped sens, and numerous sens of different sizes ( Fig. 30A View FIGURE 30 ). Ant III sense organ with 2 leaf-shaped sens, 3 guard sens, 1 elongated sens and at least 7 sens of different sizes ( Fig. 30B View FIGURE 30 ). Ant II dorsally with about 5 elongated sens and 4 mac, without ventral mac ( Fig. 30C View FIGURE 30 ). Ant I dorsally with 5–7 mac and 4–5 smooth mic at the base ( Fig. 30C View FIGURE 30 ). Eyes A, B and C larger, G and H slightly smaller than the others, and with 6 interocular mes (q, v, s, p, r, t); head dorsal chaetotaxy ( Fig. 30E View FIGURE 30 ) with 7–9 ‘ An ’, 3 ‘ A ’, 4–5 ‘ M ’, 8–9 ‘ S ’, 1 ‘ Ps ’, 4 ‘ Pa ’, 2 ‘ Pi ’, 2 ‘ Pm ’, 1–3 ‘ Pmp ’, 4 ‘ Pp ’, 1 ‘ Ppe ’ and 3 ‘ Pe ’ mac, respectively. Abdomen chaetotaxy ( Figs 32B–C View FIGURE 32 ). Abd I a, m and p series with 1–2, 5–7 and 0–2 mac, respectively. Abd II a, m and p series with 0–2 (1 mac rarely present), 4–5 and 0–1 mac, respectively. Abd III a, m and p series with 0–1, 2–3 and 1 mac, respectively.Abd IV with 20–28 (0–2 unpaired and 1 extra mac) inner mac of A–C series and 13–16 outer mac of T–Fe series; about 18 sens (ps type I and others type II) and 16 posterior mes. Abd V a, m, pa and p series with 1, 3, 1 and 5 mac, respectively. Ratio Abd III: IV = 1: 5.61–7.00 (n=4), neotype 1: 6.42.

Legs ( Fig. 33 View FIGURE 33 ). Subcoxa I with 2 chaetae and 2 psp; subcoxa II with an anterior row of 7 chaetae and about 9 anterior chaetae; posterior row of 4 chaetae and 4 psp; subcoxa III with one row of 8 chaetae, about 19 anterior chaetae and 2 psp ( Figs 33A–C View FIGURE 33 ). Trochanteral organ with 28–39 spine-like chaetae ( Fig. 33D View FIGURE 33 ). Tibiotarsus I–III with 1 anterior and 7–9 inner finely ciliate mac; 1 outer apically acuminate mac at the base ( Fig. 33E View FIGURE 33 ). Unguis b.t. on proximal 2/3, m.t. on distal 1/3 and smaller than b.t., a.t. minute and on distal 1/7. Unguiculus I–III lamellae (ae, ai, pe, pi) smooth and acuminate, except II–III with ai slightly truncate distally and II pe serrated with a small proximal tooth; ratio unguis: unguiculus = 1: 0.58. Tibiotarsus III smooth chaeta 1.31 longer than the unguiculus; tenent hairs 0.94 shorter than the unguis ( Figs 33F–G View FIGURE 33 ).

Collophore ( Fig. 34A View FIGURE 34 ). Anterior side with about 31 ciliate chaetae, 6 distal mac and about 25 chaetae of different sizes widely distributed on the corpus; posterior side with about 90 ciliate chaetae of different sizes widely distributed on the corpus (9 unpaired) and distally with 1 smooth chaeta; lateral flap with 14–16 chaetae, 9–14 smooth and 3–5 ciliate.

Furcula ( Figs 34B–D View FIGURE 34 ). Manubrium ventrally with 2 subapical and about 39 distal ciliate chaetae of different sizes. Manubrial plate dorsally with 7–9 chaetae of different sizes and 3 psp. Dens dental lobe with 2 (bs1 and bs2) thicker ciliate chaetae, bs1 subequal to bs2. Dens tightly crenulate on its distal ¼ distally with 1 inner chaeta larger than the others and modified. Mucro proximal tooth larger than the distal one, mucronal spine surpassing the proximal tooth apex.

Variations. Specimens of E. uambae from different localities mostly show similar variations, except one specimen from Campos de Julho municipality which has a3 mac on both sides of the Abd II (generally absent) ( Fig. 32B View FIGURE 32 ), and the whitish body with purple pigments, but with the same spots pattern ( Figs 29F and 29L View FIGURE 29 ). Considering that only these two differences were observed, we believe there are only small variations in the populations.

Distribution. In the original description, E. uambae was reported only for its type locality (Mato Grosso state, Alto Xingu municipality). Later, the species was also recorded in the Amazonas state ( Oliveira & Deharveng 1995), but we are herein invalidating this Amazonas record for two reasons. The first is that the Amazonas specimens were incorrectly identified as E. uambae , and instead they belong to Amazhomidia thaisae Cipola & Bellini, 2018 (see Cipola et al. 2018b: 411). This mistake was made likely due to the similarity in the coloration patterns (yellowish with a dark transverse stripe on Abd IV posteriorly) ( Fig. 29 View FIGURE 29 ) between both species (Oliveira, E.P. personal communication). The second is that after extensive sampling in the present study, E. uambae was only found in Mato Grosso state ( Fig. 35 View FIGURE 35 ).

Remarks. Entomobrya uambae resembles E. egleri (see the remarks for E. egleri and Table 2).
