Identification. Body compressed. Premaxilla with one row of five multicuspidated teeth. Maxilla with one tooth. Pseudotympanum present. Lateral line interrupted with 5–8 perforated scales. Twenty-two to 29 ventral procur- rent rays, more prominent in males. Pelvic fin with six branched rays. Caudal-fin rays, 14–17. Conspicuous sub- circular dark spot on caudal peduncle present.
