Etymology. rafaeli , genitive singular; honoring José Albertino Rafael from Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, Manaus, Brazil ( INPA) for his contribution to the knowledge of insects.
Diagnosis. Marginal processes on dorsal rim of pygophore projected posteriorly; marginal processes clavate apically. Ventral rim of pygophore projected posteriorly, quadrate, V-notched medially. Parameres reduced. Description. Disc of scutellum black ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1–8 ). Urosternites mostly black, tubercle on urosternite III castaneous; lateral portion of each urosternite yellow. Each connexival sclerite mostly black, outer margin yellow. Proportion of antennal segments: I <II = III <IV = V.
Male genitalia. Pygophore quadrate, distal half depressed; posterolateral angles rounded. Marginal processes on each side of dorsal rim medially, each projected posteriorly; marginal processes clavate apically ( Fig. 17 View FIGURES 17–21 ). Ventral rim projected posteriorly, quadrate, notched medially ( Fig. 18 View FIGURES 17–21 ). Parameres reduced. Surface of segment X convex; each posterolateral angle of segment X produced posteriorly, acute apically; distal margin with deep Ushaped notch.
Measurements (mm). Total length, 5.40; length of head, 0.73; head length ahead of eyes, 0.37; interocular distance, 0.87; length of antennal segments: I, 0.27; II, 0.63; III, 0.60; IV, 1.07; V, 1.07; width of head, 0.70; width of pronotum, 3.37; length of pronotum, 1.20; width of scutellum, 2.13; length of scutellum, 2.17; width of abdomen at third segment, 3.27.
Female unknown.
