5.17. Myrcia tomentosa (Aubl.) DC., Prodr. 3: 245. 1828.
Basionym: Eugenia tomentosa Aubl ., Hist. Pl. Guiane 1: 504. 1775 (type: Guiana, Aublet s.n., BM).
= Aulomyrcia spathulata O.Berg, Fl. Bras. 14(1): 91. 1857. Myrcia spathulata (O.Berg) Kiaersk., Enum. Myrt. Bras. : 72. 1893. (syntypes: Rio de Janeiro, Sellow s.n., B; "In campis ad Pantago, provinciae S. Pauli", Sellow s.n., B, both probably lost). Syn. nov.
= Myrcia verruculata S.Moore, Trans. Linn. Soc. London, Bot. 4: 355. 1895 (type: Mato Grosso, S. Moore 276, BM). Syn. nov.
We were not able to find any original specimen of Aulomyrcia spathulata , but the description in the protologue adequately matches the characters of Myrcia tomentosa . Additionally, the species to which A. spathulata is compared Aulomyrcia alloiota , A. aureolanata and A. caracasana ( Berg, 1857 –1859) are all synonyms of M. tomentosa ( Govaerts et al. 2010) .
