Descriptive notes. Head-body 155 mm, tail 104 mm. No specific data are available for body weight. Dorsum of the Upland Squirrel is speckled brownish with whitetipped guard hairs, venter is gray, and tail is annulated. The Upland Squirrel is similar to the Slender Squirrel (S. tenuis), but is darker and larger.
Habitat. Montane and lower montane forests.
