Diagnosis (male). Hypopygium left epandrial process with a projection under hypoproct and a dorsal lobe directed medially.

Material examined. Holotype: ♂, BRAZIL: Santa Catarina: Nova Teutônia , xi.1958, 27 º11’S, 52º23’W, 500 m, F. Plaumann col. ( MZSP).  

Redescription. Male. Body length, 1.6 mm. Head. Frons black, sparsely setulose, with well-defined median furrow. Flagellomere 1 dark brown, pubescent, elongate-conical. Arista apical, pubescent, about as long as flagellomere 1. Palpus brown; two genal setae. Thorax. Scutum, scutellum and pleural regions black; anepisternum setulose dorsally. Legs yellowish-brown. Foretibia with two dorsal setae and anterodorsal row of strong setulae ( Fig. 180 View FIGURES 174 – 190 ). Foremetatarsus swollen, with anteroapical setulose process, anterior excavation, long seta at excavation base and seta at base of anteroapical process. Hind femur not swollen (height/length ratio, 0.32), with posteroventral group of tiny blunt setulae with semicircular distribution, tapering toward ventral margin—dorsal setulae thicker ( Fig. 300 View FIGURES 298 – 304 ). Hind tibia with one dorsal seta. Wing ( Fig. 232 View FIGURES 227 – 238 ). Costa swollen, 0.37 of the wing length; M1 slightly concave, curved posteriorly at apex; M2 with two sinuosities; antero-posterior distance between M2 and CuA1 at CuA1 apex about 1.7 times the distance between M1 and M2 at the same level; CuA1 sinuous. Halter orange. Abdomen. Tergites black, with lighter posterior band. Hypopygium light brown ( Figs. 116–119 View FIGURES 116 – 119 ). Epandrium covered with microtrichia mostly dorsally, large proximal lateral areas bare; dorsal and left sutures present. Left epandrial process dorsally setose, with ventral reentrance, dorsal medially directed lobe and subepandrial elevation bearing five long setae. Right epandrial projection with subepandrial group of setulae. Hypoproct projected posteriorly, with three setae. Hypandrium without lateral projections.

Geographical distribution. Known only from the type-locality in Nova Teutônia, southern Brazil.

Comments. This redescription complements the original description of Coniceromyia plaumanni ( Borgmeier, 1963b)   mainly with information on the hypopygium morphology, the foretibia anterodorsal row of strong setulae, the foremetatarsus basal seta, and the seta at the base of the anteroapical process. Coniceromyia plaumanni   is morphologically very similar to C. brandaoi   , differing from this species by the shape of the apex of the left epandrial process. Both species share possible apomorphies, such as the projection under the hypoproct and the ventral reentrance at the left epandrial process.
