Conicera latimana Malloch, 1924: 73 View in CoL .

Coniceromyia latimana View in CoL ; Schmitz, 1927: 66. Refs.: Schmitz 1929: 126; Borgmeier 1950: 298; 1963b: 455, fig. 7; 1969a: 5, fig. 11.

Diagnosis (male). Foretrochanter with ventral curved process with apical group of setae ( Fig. 323 View FIGURES 318 – 324 ); foretarsomere 5 darker than the other tarsomeres.

Material examined. Holotype ♂, PUERTO RICO: Ciales, vii.1913, collected from the stomach of an Anthracothorax (no further data) ( MZSP) ; Paratype ♂, same data as holotype but deposited at the USNM . Additional material: BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS: 5♂, Guana Is. , 18.47°N, 64.57°W, 1–20.xi.2001, Malaise trap, W-P. Liao col. Redescription. Male. Body length, 1.6–1.8 mm. Head. Frons dark brown, sparsely setulose, with welldefined median furrow. Flagellomere 1 light brown, pubescent, elongate-conical. Arista apical, pubescent, about half the length of flagellomere 1. Palpus yellow; two genal setae. Thorax. Scutum and scutellum brown or dark brown, pleural regions yellowish-brown; anepisternum bare. Legs yellowish-brown, foretarsomere 5 and apex of hind femur dark brown. Foretrochanter with ventral curved process bearing apical group of setae ( Fig. 323 View FIGURES 318 – 324 ).

Foretibia with two dorsal setae and anterodorsal row of strong setulae. Foremetatarsus expanded anteriorly, with anteroapical setulose process, anterior excavation, and seta at base of the anteroapical process ( Fig. 170 View FIGURES 158 – 173 ). Hind femur swollen (height/length ratio, 0.45), with posteroventral group of tiny blunt setulae narrow, adjacent to ventral margin ( Figs. 287–288 View FIGURES 282 – 288 ). Hind tibia with one dorsal seta. Wing (Fig. 222). Costa slightly swollen, 0.4 of the wing length; M1 concave, curved posteriorly at the apex; M2 slightly concave, antero-posterior distance between M2 and CuA1 at CuA1 apex about twice the distance between M1 and M2 at the same level; CuA1 sinuous. Halter yellow. Abdomen. Tergites dark brown, with lighter posterior band. Hypopygium brown ( Figs. 85–88 View FIGURES 85 – 88 ). Epandrium covered with microtrichia mostly dorsally, proximal lateral areas bare; dorsal suture of epandrium absent, left suture present. Left epandrial process dorsally setose, with a ventral reentrance, two apical folds, one subepandrial transversal elevation and subepandrial curved setulose process near the hypoproct. Right epandrial projection with subepandrial group of setulae. Hypoproct with two setae. Hypandrium without lateral projections.

Geographical distribution. Porto Rico and West Indies.

Comments. The holotype of Coniceromyia latimana is in bad condition. The thorax, legs and wings are highly damaged. Additional material has been assigned to this species based on Malloch’s original description and on features that could be observed in the holotype, such as the dark foretarsomere 5, foretrochanter ventral curved process, and foremetatarsus expanded anteriorly.
