Ecnomina specensis sp. nov.
Figs 69–71 View FIGURES 69–74
Diagnosis. Ecnomina specensis is most similar to E. incisura , from which it can be separated by the broader fused inferior appendages and small details in the shape of the superior appendages.
Description. Head, body and wings light brown; wings similar to E. scutica ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1–6 ) and E. legula ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Forewing length about 3 times width: male 4.4–4.5 mm. Forewing fork 2 relatively long, sessile, nygma present, length about 1.2 times length of fork 3; fork 3 relatively long, sessile, cross-veins r-m and m not contiguous at fork 3 by about 2.0–2.7 times length cross-vein m; fork 4 present, similar length to fork 3; fork 5 long, length about 1.8 times length of fork 4. Hindwing length about 3 times width fork 2 sessile or with very short footstalk, length footstalk up to 0.4 times length cross-vein m, fork 2 length about 1.3–1.4 times length of fork 3.
Male. Tergum X membranous, truncate distally ( Fig. 71 View FIGURES 69–74 ). Superior appendages with base displaced ventrally; in lateral view, narrowed basally, dilated and sub quadrate distally. Phallus generally tube-like, slightly laterally compressed; with a single, robust, hooked process (phallic guide) arising from near the base of the inferior appendages ( Fig. 69 View FIGURES 69–74 ). Inferior appendages strongly dorso-ventrally compressed; in ventral view, fused, very broad, sub quadrate, length about 0.3 times width, with a small central notch distally, and rounded lobes disto-laterally ( Fig. 70 View FIGURES 69–74 ); in lateral view, robust, rounded distally ( Fig. 69 View FIGURES 69–74 ).
Female. Unknown.
Holotype male (specimen PT-2059 figured): Queensland, Running R., Mt Spec State Forest , 680 m, 18°57'S, 146°10'E, 19 Dec 1993, lt tr., A.L. Sheldon ( NMV, T-19669). GoogleMaps
Etymology. Specensis - named for the type locality (Mt Spec State Forest).
Remarks. Ecnomina specensis has been collected from only the type locality in north-eastern Queensland (latitude 18°57'S).
