Type locality.

Martinez, California, USA; stratum: uncertain; age: Eocene.

Type material.

Syntypes ANSP IP4216 (of M. striatum Gabb, 1864), 2 shells (lost).

Remarks.

This was a new name for Megistostoma striatum Gabb, 1864, when transferred to the genus Philine [non striata Deshayes, 1824]. However, the name P. gabbiana (Stoliczka, 1868) has precedence over it (see below).
