Key to distinguish the various species of Septemoecia View in CoL
Based on the data given in Table 1 and on the carapace outlines illustrated in Figure 10 View FIGURE 10 , the species can be separated on the basis of their external carapace characteristics using the following key.
1. Large species carapace length (exclusive of spines)> 2.5 mm. All spines, except the posterior dorsal spine, with numerous sec- ondary spinules................................................................................. S. omega View in CoL
- Smaller species <2.5 mm. Spines either bare or with only one or two secondary spinules............................. 2
2. Species with long spines; shoulder and ventral spines>50 % CL that curve to point posteriorly............. S. longispinata View in CoL
- Species with shorter spines; shoulder and ventral spines <35 % CL and only slightly curved pointing obliquely from carapace.................................................................................................... 3
3. Ventral spines very short <10 % CL............................................................... S. deeveyae View in CoL
- Ventral spines longer>18 % CL.......................................................................... 4
4. Ventral spines inserted low down on the carapace <10 % CH............................................ S. georgei View in CoL
- Ventral spines inserted at least 25 % CH above the ventral margin............................................... 5
5. Ventral spines inserted ~25 % CH above ventral margin........................................... S. aff. deeveyae View in CoL
- Ventral spines inserted>40 % CH above ventral margin......................................... .. S. septemspinosa View in CoL
