Type Locality: Indonesia, Prov. of Papua (= Irian Jaya), Geelvinck Bay, Pulau Biak, 25 km northeast of Biak (town), 65 m (Flannery, 1995 b) .

Vernacular Names: Biak Island Uromys.

Distribution: Known only by the holotype collected on Pulau Biak.

Discussion: Subgenus Uromys . Regarded as a primitive member of the subgenus (Flannery, 1995 b) and "the plesiomorphic sister-group to all other species of subgenus Uromys " ( Groves and Flannery (1994:164).
