General.
To this day, nine species of Vespiodes are known from the Afrotropical Region occurring from Ghana in the north-west to north-eastern South Africa in the south ( Sack 1935, Bequaert 1940, 1951, Hesse 1969, Bowden 1980), but representatives have not been reported from eastern Africa with the exception of central Malawi from where Vespiodes nyasae Hesse, 1969 was described. The latest key to species was published by Hesse (1969: 33).
