Subfamily Peloropeodinae Robinson, 1970 View in CoL View at ENA
The subfamily Peloropeodinae was erected by Robinson (1970) for a number of small-sized genera that mostly share a flattened posterior mesonotum, veins R 4+5 and M 1 parallel, and with anterior preapical setae present on femora II and III. However, the male postabdomen of the included genera show a wide range of morphological structure, suggesting the subfamily is not monophyletic, but a heterogeneous assemblage. Further, Lim et al. (2010) state that based on molecular data, the dolichopodid subfamily Peloropeodinae fails the test of monophyly. Nevertheless, it serves as a “holding taxon” for a number of disparate mostly small-sized dolichopodid genera. Grichanov & Negrobov (2018) placed the fossil genus Palaeomedeterus Meunier in the subfamily, where it remains until its taxonomic position can be clarified.
