Remarks: Daday (1889a) reported this species from the following localities: Péczel ( Hungary), Déva (now in Romania), and Rumunyesty (now in Romania). Reexamination of Daday’s specimens from Péczel during present study it turned out that these are representaives of Chernes hahnii . Furthermore, neither of the samples from the other two localities belong to C. montigenus , even though they are chernetids. Likewise, the specimen reported from Hungary by Kárpáthegyi (2007) also belongs to Chernes hahnii . The specimen earlier reported from the Bakony Mts as C. montigenus (Novák 2015) proved to be a misidentification, and belongs to C. similis . As a consequence, C. montigenus is excluded from the Hungarian fauna list.
