Habitat preference: The early literature recorded Chernes cimicoides mostly from deciduous forests, where it was found under tree bark and sometimes also in the leaf litter, and even from ants nest ( Beier 1963a; Legg & Jones 1988; Christophoryová et al. 2017c). It was also recorded under dead wood bark in Lithuania ( Krajčovičová et al. 2018). In Slovakia, Christophoryová (2013) found it in oak-hornbeam forests. In Hungary, it has been reported from beech forest ( Novák 2013a) and I have found it in the following habitats: under maple and oak bark, oak forest, and mixed forest of alder and oak.
Remarks: Chernes cimicoides is widespread in Hungary, as well as across Europe.
